Asbestos surveys that tell you exactly what's there

An asbestos survey identifies whether asbestos is present in a building, where it is and what condition it's in. There are two main HSE survey types: a management survey for buildings in normal use, and a more intrusive refurbishment and demolition survey that's required before any building work begins.

The specialist surveyors we work with inspect the property, take samples of suspect materials under controlled conditions, and have them analysed at an accredited laboratory. You get a clear written report, including an asbestos register and risk assessment, so you know exactly what you're dealing with before any work or purchase goes ahead.

Asbestos Survey FAQs

What types of asbestos survey are there?
There are two main HSE survey types. A management survey locates asbestos so it can be managed safely while a building stays in normal use. A refurbishment and demolition survey is more intrusive and needed before any building work begins. A re-inspection survey then keeps an eye on known asbestos over time.
How long does an asbestos survey take?
A management survey of a typical home usually takes a few hours. Larger or commercial premises, and more intrusive refurbishment and demolition surveys, take longer. Samples then go off to a laboratory for analysis, so your written report with the results normally follows within a few working days of the site visit.
Does my property contain asbestos?
If your property was built or refurbished before the year 2000, it may well contain asbestos, which wasn't fully banned in the UK until 1999. It commonly turns up in roofing sheets, textured coatings like Artex, floor tiles, pipe lagging and insulation board. The only reliable way to know for certain is a professional survey.
Is disturbed asbestos dangerous?
Yes. Asbestos is generally low-risk while it's intact and left alone, but disturbing it is where the danger lies. Drilling, cutting, sanding or breaking it releases microscopic fibres that are harmful when breathed in. If you think a material contains asbestos, leave it be and arrange a professional survey or removal before any work starts.
