Across Merseyside, cement bonded household asbestos is accepted by appointment only at three recycling centres, Bidston, Huyton and Southport, booked through the Veolia Merseyside and Halton asbestos disposal service (online form or 0203 567 4200, Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 16:30).

The full rule
  • Each site runs the service once every 3 weeks, same-day appointments are not available and at peak times appointments may take up to 8 weeks (Veolia's recycling centres page says up to 6 weeks), so travel only once you have an email confirmation.
  • A van, or a trailer between 2m and 3m long, also needs a van booking, and van or large trailer visits are limited to one vehicle per household per week and 12 visits a year.
  • There is no pedestrian access at any of the three sites.
  • It must be double wrapped in 500-gauge Visqueen or builder's rubble bags with all edges sealed with heavy duty tape (asbestos in bin bags will not be accepted).
  • Asbestos from trade activity, allotments or rental property, or removed by a contractor, is not accepted, and there is no collection service.
  • No charge is published.
