Bradford Council takes asbestos cement only, at Bowling Back Lane Household Waste Recycling Centre in Bradford and at none of its other sites.

  • It is for private households in Bradford, not businesses.
  • Leftover waste from tradespeople working on your home is not accepted at its centres.
  • You must book in advance on the council's online form, giving at least 24 hours notice, and you can deliver only Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm; the council's site policy lists bank holidays as closed.
  • Wrap it in two layers of strong plastic sheeting sealed with parcel tape, or the site will refuse to take it.
  • The waste must be easy to carry and fit through a container opening of 1m x 1m, which is 1.1m off the ground, and you must lift it into the skip yourself because staff cannot help.
  • On the day bring a driving licence, a current Council Tax bill and the vehicle log book (or a letter from your employer if you use a company car), all matching the address the asbestos came from, plus the hire agreement if you use a hire vehicle.
  • You will be turned away without a residents permit; a van, pickup or trailer needs a large capacity vehicle permit instead.
  • The council does not publish a charge for asbestos.
  • Its bulky waste collection will not take asbestos.
  • Other types of asbestos are more harmful and need specialist handling.
