Only a little, already taken down? What Warwickshire says

Warwickshire

Warwickshire accepts small amounts of household asbestos at four recycling centres, Judkins, Hunters Lane, Lower House Farm and Princes Drive, up to 3 sheets (or equivalent) per month, measuring no more than 20cm high, 150cm wide and 180cm long.

The full rule
  • It must be double wrapped in heavy gauge polythene sheets, sealed with strong adhesive tape and labelled 'asbestos waste', or it will be refused.
  • Report to the weighbridge or a member of staff on arrival so the asbestos can be logged.
  • Booking is required seven days a week at Hunters Lane, and at weekends and on Bank Holiday Monday at Judkins, Lower House Farm and Princes Drive.
  • Pedestrian access is not permitted at any of the four sites.
  • Vehicle and trailer restrictions apply at every centre: a van or pickup can only be used by applying for agreed visits first, and a car trailer must be no longer than 1.83 metres.
  • The county council does not publish a charge.

Warwick's own pages add: Warwick District Council publishes no asbestos disposal guidance of its own. Of the two tips in the district, Princes Drive in Leamington is on the county list of sites that take asbestos and Cherry Orchard in Kenilworth is not.

Asbestos Services Across Warwick

Warwick is the historic county town of Warwickshire, and it mixes an old core with later growth. Georgian and Victorian terraces sit beside inter-war and post-war housing and businesses. Much of this was built before asbestos was banned. So asbestos can be in homes, flats and workplaces across the town. It usually causes no problem until repairs or refurbishment disturb it.

We cover Warwick and the area around it, including Leamington Spa, Kenilworth and nearby Coventry and Stratford-upon-Avon. We arrange asbestos surveys, testing and removal through the specialist contractors we work with. Improving a period home, meeting a landlord's obligations or refurbishing a business? Begin carefully. Asbestos can't be identified by eye, so anything suspect must be surveyed or lab-tested before it's disturbed.

We cover the CV postcode area across Warwick and the surrounding towns.

Warwick's buildings and asbestos

74.8% of properties in Warwick district were built before 2000

That's 52,830 of 70,590. Asbestos wasn't fully banned until 1999. Only a survey or a test can tell you about one property: do you need an asbestos survey on a house?

More about the buildings around Warwick

In semi-detached housing the most common finds are asbestos cement garage and shed roofs, textured coatings on ceilings, insulating board in airing cupboards and around boilers, and cement soffits and rainwater goods. That matters in Warwick district because semi-detached houses are the largest group there, 26.1% of 70,590 properties, and around 74.8% of the stock predates the 1999 asbestos ban. The next largest group is flats and maisonettes at 22.9%, which puts part of the risk in communal risers and ceiling voids rather than inside any one home. The largest group was built since 2000. Property built from 2000 onwards is after the ban, so it should be free of asbestos as built. Anything older on the same plot, and any part retained from an earlier building, is a different matter. By period, 14.3% were built before 1900, 7.8% between 1919 and 1939 and 24.1% since 2000. None of that tells you whether a particular property contains asbestos; only a survey or a laboratory test can.

Yes. We arrange asbestos removal, surveys, testing, disposal, encapsulation and management across Warwick and the wider Warwickshire area, for homeowners, landlords and businesses. The work is done by the specialist contractors we work with. Every job starts with a free quote, with no obligation. Any suspect material is checked by a professional survey or a test at an accredited lab.
Is asbestos likely in a Warwick property?
Around 74.8% of properties in Warwick district (52,830 of 70,590) were built before 2000. Asbestos wasn't fully banned in the UK until 1999. So most local buildings date from a time when it was still in use. The largest single group was built since 2000, after the ban, but the older periods together make up that 74.8%. That doesn't mean any one property contains asbestos. Only a survey or a lab test can tell you that. Figures: Valuation Office Agency, Council Tax: stock of properties 2026, table CTSOP4.0 (31 March 2026).
Does my property contain asbestos?
If your property was built or refurbished before 2000, it may well contain asbestos. It wasn't fully banned in the UK until 1999. It often turns up in roof sheets, textured coatings like Artex, floor tiles, pipe lagging and insulation board. The only reliable way to know for sure is a professional survey.
