Swindon Borough Council is licensed to take asbestos, and domestic cement-bonded asbestos from your own property is accepted free at the Household Waste Recycling Centre in limited amounts, by booked appointment and with proof of address.

The full rule
  • You must be a Swindon Borough resident.
  • The centre is open for pre-booked visits only, and before a booking is confirmed you must sign a declaration that the waste is from your own domestic property.
  • The centre is closed on Wednesdays.
  • It does not accept vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, flatbed trucks, tipper vans, caged trucks and vans or double-axle trailers.
  • You can bring up to 12 sheets, each no bigger than 1.5m × 2.5m, double-wrapped in heavy-duty polythene or bags, sealed with tape, and no single package heavier than 25kg.
  • Asbestos removed by a builder is not taken this way; the council sends it to its charged service or a specialist contractor.
  • The council will also collect asbestos, but that is charged: a £45 per hour call-out, a £30 consignment note, then £7.90 a bag or £10 a roof sheet including VAT.
