Doncaster Council provides free disposal of cement bonded asbestos and other solid items known to contain asbestos (for example Marley floor tiles and old toilet cisterns) from DIY work you have done yourself at your own home.

The full rule
  • In Doncaster it is taken at Armthorpe Household Waste Recycling Centre, Armthorpe Road, DN2 5QB, only by pre-booked appointment, made through an online recycling centre account; the service is shared with Barnsley Council, whose site is Worsbrough.
  • Armthorpe is open 8.30am to 7pm, seven days a week.
  • You must be a Doncaster or Barnsley resident.
  • The limit is eight bags or packages per property, and whole sheets must be no bigger than 6ft x 4ft.
  • Everything must be double wrapped or bagged in 1000 grade builders polythene, securely taped and sealed; incorrectly wrapped items will not be accepted.
  • Asbestos from work by a tradesperson is not accepted.
  • You put it in the skip yourself, staff will not help, and the opening is 142cm from the floor.
  • Material too big for the container needs a licensed waste disposal company.
  • Doncaster residents in personal cars do not need a pass at Doncaster sites.
  • A medium or large van, or a car towing a trailer, needs a vehicle pass; flatbeds, box vans and hire vans must make a one-off booking instead, though Barnsley's page lists a flatbed or tipper van as not allowed, so confirm first.
  • Vehicles over 3500kg are not allowed.

None of that tells you whether a particular property contains asbestos; only a survey or a laboratory test can.
